Let’s do this. But wait. How do we do this? I know you are excited to get started. But you might be thinking, but wait. HOW do we do this? I want to break it down step by step, so that booking and planning your senior session doesn’t seem like a daunting task. Instead it seems like I am giving you a path and lighting it along the way so you don’t get lost.
We are the perfect match!
So you have looked through every picture on my Insta and you showed your mom my website. You think we would be a great match because you love hair and makeup and your mom loves the quality of the images. *Remember, I have to please both of you. As much as you would like to think this is about you, your mom has to be a part of it too.
We are the perfect match!
Step 1: Decided which session you want
We are offering two types of sessions this year, with the option to upgrade any of those sessions to a travel session. The first session is the Baby Bee Session with Siera. Siera was in my Bee Squad 2 years ago and is currently a student at WMU. This session includes:
• Prep guide and what to wear packet
• Wardrobe styling
• SIERA provides Professional hair and makeup at the studio
• 3 outfits
• Studio location (outdoors + indoors)
• 1 hour of shooting time
• Swag bag with VOP t-shirt and more
• Exclusive ordering session with specialized pricing
• 40 images to view at ordering session
• Prints, products, digital files sold separately
$200 is due now, and $50 is due the day of the session.
The next type of session is the Queen Bee Session with Sarah. Sarah has been with Valerie Ott Photograph for the last 6 years. This session includes everything from the Baby Bee Session AND:
• SARAH provides Professional hair and airbrush make-up
• On location hair and makeup changes
• 3 – 5 outfits
• More shooting time
The Difference Between the Sessions?
The biggest difference between the two sessions is hair and makeup on-location and more outfits. Other than that, the sessions are the same.
Upgrading the Sessions?
I talk a lot on the blog about making your senior session as unique to you as possible. One of the best ways to make it unique is to think about the LOCATION that you love. Lots of times that special place is not in Kalamazoo. It could be anyway in Michigan, anywhere in the US, or anywhere in the WORLD. I love to travel and I would never hesitate to travel with you to your favorite place.
Travel needs to carefully planned. Depending on the location, there is a lot to research and coordinate before we arrive. It could even necessitate an overnight stay. I would highly recommend booking a Queen Bee Session and then upgrading it. Sarah has gone on a lot of destinations sessions with me, so she knows the flow.
Step 2: Schedule Your Session
After you book your session, next you will schedule your session for a time and date the works for you. If it is during the school season, be prepared to miss a day or half day of school. We use natural light and in Michigan Daylight Savings Time really makes our days tricky. The only way we can accomplish your entire session is to start during the day, which is why you might have to miss school. If you schedule your session in the summer, we have lots of dates available, however our dates fill up fast.
I will send you a link to view our calendar to schedule your best time and date. There is no going back and forth between your schedule, Sarah/Siera’s schedule and my schedule. It’s easy to see in one link.
Step 3: Prepare for Your Session
After you pick your date and we confirm it, then I start to send you a lot of emails. I know that might seem overwhelming. But I drip out the emails into bite size pieces to give you plenty of time to prepare. If you are organized and details oriented, you will love the instruction. If you are carefree and last-minute then you will still love it because you can read it when it works for you. Whatever kind of personality you are, DO NOT STRESS. Nothing about this should be stressful.
One of my favorite things about the preparation process is that I have done it so many times that I can anticipate what you are going to ask before you ask it. In other words, most of my clients don’t need to ask me questions because I have already answered all of their questions. However, that doesn’t mean that I won’t answer all of your questions. Of course I will hear every question or concern you have.
Part of preparation is thinking about clothes, location, settings, poses and props. I give you instructions about all of those things.
Step 4: Your Session
Your session will be more fun than you will anticipate. We laugh a lot. Here’s a little tip: I live on peanut butter, so if you bring me a treat with peanut butter (cookies, Reese’s, on a spoon), then you will probably have an amazing day because I will be having an amazing day.
We take our time. Having fun is important. We get everything you want. The more you prepare, the better I can serve you.
We always start with hair and makeup. Most of the time this is done at the studio, but if we choose a destination, then we may have to start hair and makeup at a different location.
After hair and makeup, we will drive (separately) to the location you want. We will have this planned out before we get in the car. This is always the reason why I can not tell you exactly how long your session will take. Because everyone is different.
Step 5: Your Ordering Session
After your session you can earn a few Instagram previews (everyone loves those previews!). I will give you another email about how to earn those.
Roughly two weeks after your session you will schedule an ordering session to come back to see me. During the ordering session you will see all your images and decide how you want to purchase them.
You will first see all your images in a slide show. Cue the tears! In addition, you will be able to see and touch all of the proofs from your session. You will also see and touch all of the products that I offer so you can decide how you want to display your own images.
You want to bring anyone who will make a financial decision to this ordering session.
Step 6: Post Ordering Session
About 2 to 3 weeks after your ordering session all of your products will arrive and you can pick them up when it works for you. Or you can choose to have them shipped to you directly. Either way, you will love your new artwork in your home.
One of my favorite things that happens post ordering session is when moms call, email or text me. I love hearing how they see little changes in their daughter’s. Sometimes they tell me about how there is a shift in confidence. I hear about how there is so much excitement about how beautiful they felt. Moms love the gift of having their daughter feel amazing.
In conclusion, I can tell if, if I put this much effort into writing a blog post, you can imagine how much effort I put into working with you for your session. I will make you feel like you are my only client. You will feel heard. I will make you feel like you are beautiful on the inside, and you will see it on the outside. If you have hesitations about booking, you need to call me immediately because I will ease all your fears. I get it. Not everyone loves the phone. Text is ok. Heck, I will even Marco Polo with you. Above all, I am here to walk you through the process and have fun while doing it.
Let’s do this. But wait. How do we do this? Answer: By jumping right in!
