I have years of experience photographing high school seniors, and there’s one thing I know for sure… your outfit selections can make or break your session images! Avoid these 3 fashion mistakes and your session will go smoothly from start to finish.
In this guide I share my top three things to avoid when planning your session attire to ensure you look and feel your best during this once in a lifetime experience.
3 Fashion Mistakes To Avoid For Your Senior Session:
- Don’t Wear Your Favorite Outfit First
At the beginning of your session you are more stiff and nervous. We still get good images, but the favorites are usually not from early in the session. When you realize you are having a good time you still start to feel more free and when you feel free, you will love your images.
Your fashion mistake here would be wearing your favorite outfit too early into the session.
- Don’t Be Afraid To Wear Something Outside Of Your Comfort Zone
I am not talking about something risque or scandalous. I am talking about something that is a fashion risk. Have at least one outfit that is a little (or a lot) bold for you. Surprisingly that usually ends up being a favorite.
I highly suggest planning this outfit with me ahead of time, though, because I know what fashion risks to take and which to avoid. I can help you along the way!
The fashion mistakes here would be wearing boring clothing. Spice it up.
- Have A Dress Rehearsal 10 Days Prior To Your Session
Try on everything! Jewelry, shoes, socks, belts, hats … EVERYTHING! There are several reasons this is important.
If you put on the entire outfit, you might realize the belt you thought would look good, doesn’t. Now, you have time to shop for anything you need for each outfit.
If something you thought looked great last fall suddenly doesn’t fit like it used it (maybe it shrank in the dryer) you will have time to pick out another outfit. Ill-fitting clothes could ruin your session.
You won’t forget any tiny details for your session. Once you have the entire outfit on, you might realize you need no-show ankle socks instead of athletic socks. Putting on the entire outfit is the only way to learn about these details.
BONUS TIP: After you try everything on, put it in a laundry basket or suitcase so it’s ready to go for your big day. Hang anything that could potentially wrinkle. The day of the session all you have to do is grab the laundry basket and hanging clothes and you are ready!
Your fashion mistakes here would be not trying on your outfits ahead of time.
