Whether you have just started to wear makeup, of or you have used it for a long time, for most people it is not a natural talent. It is something that takes a lot of practice, and many hours of reading articles and watching YouTube videos. In order to save you some time, I’ve put together this nifty list of 3 makeup tips for the essential everyday items that all teens will find helpful
Figuring out the perfect way to use foundation is, well, the foundation that all your other makeup tips will be based upon! If your foundation doesn’t look flawless, neither will you. The first thing to know is that there are two types of foundation: liquid and powder. Some people choose to only use one type, while other people like to use a combination. The most important step to using foundation, is choosing the correct shade. This is why testing out the foundations is the only way you will know if it will work for you. The best way to do this is by applying it to the inside of your wrist, as that skin tone tends to match your face. (I have seen a lot of people try on the back of their hands, which never seems to work for me!) Even better, go to a professional makeup counter and ask them to find your shade. Even if you don’t buy anything from them, you should be able to match the name to a different brand. The second most important step to applying foundation, is the blending. Do not paint the foundation on, instead you want to gently press it onto your face using a stippling motion. The best way to apply foundation is with a beauty blender, which is a teardrop shaped sponge. They have become very popular over the past year and can be found at most drugstores. A word of caution though. Not all beauty sponges are made the same. I once purchased one that was a hard as a rock and didn’t blend well at all. After that experience I learned that I want to spend more than $1.00!
If you have naturally long, full lashes, then there isn’t much you will need to do for them to pop. But, if you are like a majority of the rest of the population, your lashes could use a little help if you want to get the full look that is popular right now. First, make sure that your mascara is not too old. If it is more than three months old, toss it out and buy a new one. This is because older mascara will start to dry out a bit, which will cause flaking and the dreaded spider look. When you are applying your mascara, start at the base of your eyelashes and sweep outward and upward while gently moving the wand back and forth. This will help you to get a natural look that makes your lashes look full on base but not have unnatural thick, chunky ends.
Your choice and style in lip color is something that you can have a lot of fun with, and also make a signature look. Red is perfect for someone who is going for the “standout, powerful” look which is really in fashion right now, a light pink is great for those days when you want minimal makeup but maximum beauty, and if you are the fun, creative type, a blue or purple might be more down your alley. Regardless of what color you choose, you will want to make sure you apply it correctly. First you will want to start with lip liner, sharpened, in the same color as your lipstick. Then you will want to smile when you apply, this allows the lips to tighten, which will give you a smoother look. Now you will want to apply the lipstick like normal, afterwards using a lip brush to fill in any areas you may have missed.
