Destination Senior Sessions: Japan
It is no secret, I love to travel more than I love to be at home. Every opportunity I get to travel, I take! Be Careful if you are around me and you have travel plans because I may insert myself in there before you know it. This happens to my partner more than anyone else, because he gets invited to travel to places all the time. But ultimately my favorite travel is for destination senior session: Japan.
In November, he was offered an assignment in Japan. Japan has never been on my bucket list and I was not that interested in going, but travel is travel and it meant that we got to do something exciting and new together, so I joined him. We were there for two weeks and I loved every minute of it. I didn’t expect to. I thought it would be just “okay”.
Part of the reason why I loved it so much was because I found two seniors who wanted a senior session while I was there. I was sad that Sarah wouldn’t be part of either of these sessions, but I was able to find a great hair and makeup stylist for both girls. I loved Japan so much BECAUSE of these seniors. Each of them were told that they needed to go to places that they loved in Japan. This actually meant that I got to see parts of Japan that I would have never seen.
For Grace, she told me that she wanted her session in just the ordinary, everyday places that she saw on her walk home from school. That short walk was FILLED with amazing things. I feel like we found more things to photograph here than I normally would find if I were at home. Honestly, I think I am only showing half of the spaces we photographed in with these blog images. It was perfect.
This image is in a large park just of the Navy Base. Everything about it was perfect. It might not say “Japan” but it was one of my favorite spots.
Just an ordinary park:
Still at the park:
The park was bigger than you think:
On our way to the park we found this wall. I think we got lots of funny looks here, but it just screamed JAPAN!
The texture is pretty amazing, but all of the details, like the Japanese writing in the cement, just makes this wonderful for me.
Temple? Yes please.
We started our session at a small temple. It was incredible:
She thinks it says I love you. Awe.
Let’s talk about location for a second. Location is important and it’s not.
It is not important because I don’t care about the manicured grass, or the fountain. Those things don’t matter to me. The things that do matter are what the location says. What does a location say? It speaks volumes. It can say so much about who you are as a person. If you hope to live in a big city one day, then do your session in a big city (and constantly be thinking “I WILL live here one day!”). If you love be find quiet, serene places, let’s go to a field. It’s about YOU, not necessarily the location.
Think about traveling. Do you love it? Do you love to see new places? Is there a place that you call your “second home”? Have someplace that you have always wanted to go? Why not do a session there!?!? It will look amazing because it’s what YOU want. Destination senior sessions are the highlights of my year because I get to go on a journey with you!
