Meet Leah, a sweet sweet young woman.
Leah VanderKooi is a student at Kalamazoo Christian High School who is hoping to attend University of Michigan or Calvin College. She is on the student council and is currently involved in an emu club. They weigh eggs and monitor them until they hatch and then teach the babies how to walk, drink and eat. What a unique and exciting thing to be apart of! She has also been involved in her school productions of Peter Pan, Alice Through the Looking Glass and Beauty and the Beast. She runs both cross country and track for her school, and says that while she isn’t very coordinated she has the streak of crazy that is required for distance running. She isn’t quite sure what she wants to do after college but is considering teaching secondary education or working in some aspect of business She is really excited to be done with all the typical high school drama and broaden my circle from the 45 kids she has gone to school with for 13 years, after graduation. As you can tell from her diverse set of interests, Leah is very unique and great fun to work with.
The three words she uses to describe herself are loyal, motivated, and witty, which I have to agree describe her perfectly. Leah was such a joy to work with! Her bucket list includes running a half marathon, attending a summer olympics and staying in a houseboat in Amsterdam.
Here is what she says about beauty:
True beauty is accepting your flaws and instead of trying to hide them all the time, wear them proudly! Scars, freckles, birthmarks and stretch marks are all just proof that we’re human.
Leah loves to shop at Marshalls and T.J. Maxx, because she loves the prices and the ever changing selection. Leah said she never leaves the house without her phone, because you never know when you will need to open Snapchat or pretend to text someone to avoid an awkward interaction. (That this the BEST reason to have your phone with you that I have ever heard!)
When it came to her vision for her photo session Leah wanted something that was laid back, and wanted help in figuring out locations, outfits and poses. Something I was more than happy to do!
She was excited to work with Valerie Ott Photography because she wanted high quality photos and was happy to find someone who would also assist with hair, makeup and styling outfits. Make sure to sign up for your session soon as spots are starting to fill up!
