http://mococo.org/statement-of-purpose/ Sarah and I are trying something different in our sessions lately. We thought that maybe instead of telling our seniors how to move, we should try some new pose ideas out first. So on a snowy, cold day, we decided to try the pose ideas out.
We are trying out the idea of moving instead of posing. It’s a strange concept to me, but it ends up looking artistic and styled in a way that we can’t typically achieve. I gave Sarah several movements, and she came up with movements on her own.
It feels weird.
It is totally unnatural.
I bet we look completely odd.
It might not be for everyone.
But it creates something that I want right now – art.
Pose Ideas: Move Through Your Poses
I will never leave the posed, smile-at-the-camera look, however there are times when I crave more. I often find that seniors don’t know how to pose, and we have to talk through it. When it comes to new pose ideas, why not MOVE through it? I think I might be onto something, and I am going to keep trying it until it clicks and becomes natural. Natural for me as a photographer, not necessarily you as the subject.
Throughout the year, Sarah and I look at other photos and pick apart what we like. We gravitate toward the images that have a weird pose. Those that seem interesting and tell a story in a way that a traditional pose just does not create.
So for the rest of 2019 I am going to practice movement. 2020 is going to be the year where I teach my seniors to move through poses. I highly doubt anyone reads this blog, so I am going to leave a little Easter Egg right here. If anyone does read this and contacts me, I will give you an entirely free session with the stipulation that you have to move instead of pose. It will be strange, but I bet we can get some great images out of it. I will get practice and you will get images. Win win.
Sarah and I work so well together, and you can see some more pose ideas from a session we did with her wedding dress here. To make sure you get all the latest buzz, subscribe to my newsletter. And let’s connect on social media! You can find me on Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook.
