When COVID first happened, in early March, we had all these appointments scheduled to photograph and we had to cancel almost all of them. For somebody who likes to create and has a lot of passion from creation, it was really difficult for me. I sat for the first couple of weeks, in COVID, not creating, not feeling creative, and feeling sad about it.

It wasn’t until I actually verbalized that I was sad did I realize I was missing all of these creative things. The next day I woke up with great ideas! This wig was the first thing that I had to make. I had to physically create something to get myself out of that COVID-funk. Creating makes me happy, so I became happy. That was the reawakening for all my creativity. So this image is what sent me into being able to create again, which I am really thankful for. I didn't plan to create a living disco ball, but that's what came to be.

She even came with yellow nails, but you can’t really see it in the image. It was so funny how easily and well this whole image came together. I remember looking at her face and thinking, again, how beautiful her skin is. And how I wanted to take advantage of the beautiful tone of skin that she has because, with darker skin tones, there is an opportunity for color. Color stands out so brilliantly. She has Barbies in her hair and yellow fingernails and she’s got a crazy sequins dress, so why not just continue the flow right on to her face. That brilliant lip just showed off how beautiful her lips are. She had to be extra. That’s a good way to describe Sydney! We just are making fascinating art!

I would say this is stupid good kitschy for our first creation. There are so many of these images that the sessions are starting to blur together. Was this our first session from the kitschy set? It's possible. I had the entire vision of the outfit created, but I had absolutely no vision of the hair and makeup. Consequently, I left that all to Sarah. I love it when our minds meld into something extraordinary.

She is just outrageous on top of outrageous. It's an absurd style. It’s like nothing we have ever done before. I feel like we started to try to outdo from one girl to the next. Thus googly-eye eyebrows may have accomplished this one.

Let’s talk about combs. Again, I feel like I should do a tutorial about how to do a great, styled photoshoot with items from the Dollar Tree. I bought 2 or 3 10-packs of combs to create this look. So we spent around $3.00 for this styled look. I had the dress; she brought the shoes. Done! The truth about combs is that it's delightfully kitschy.

I have a lot of stuff at my house. It might be a creator's dream. At any moment I could turn a session into a styled look with all the random things that I have accumulated over the years. I have more wigs than I can count. My basement is full of vintage dresses from all over. I feel like I have half the stock of what Hobby Lobby carries. Who knew that loofah sponges were a part of that.

You might notice one small difference between this

You might notice one small difference between this image and the image that I originally posted. The background color is different. I shot all of these images on a green screen and changed the color in post processing. Now I can’t decide if I like the pink for the orange better. The orange is more kitschy, hence I will land there. But let's be honest. We aren't looking at the background, we are looking at what is glued to her body.
