Slight Transition To Headshots
dissentingly I have decided to make a slight (small, tiny, itty bitty) transition to headshots, but still focusing on seniors. How did I transition from specializing in senior portraits to taking headshots? Well, the answer is really simple. My clients asked me to. Since the very first moment I started to photograph seniors the way that I do, specifically with hair and makeup from Wild Bees Beauty, the mom’s of my senior clients said the same thing over and over again. Here’s the statement I heard: I wish I had pictures like this. Mom’s were telling me that they wanted this kind of experience, without telling me that they wanted that kind of experience.
This Winter Felt Different
order neurontin over the counter Honestly, for the first several years I just grinned and agreed with them. I didn’t have any intention of changing how I did things. I worked so well with seniors. That was what I loved doing the most, so I filled my calendar with seniors all summer and fall. However, I will say this. Having a quiet winter and spring got kind of boring. I filled my winter and spring with planning my Bee Squad Art Gala, but I definitely didn’t photograph the amount of sessions that I wanted to. This leads to my transition to headshots.
Look and Feel Good
Then COVID happened and I intentionally didn’t fill my calendar at all. That, in a way, helped me prioritize what I wanted with my photography business. I took a solid break in 2020 and that made me realize how much I love my business and what I do. I make people feel and look good. And they see themselves looking good. I am almost addicted to that feeling. It occurred to me that I wanted to photograph more, but photographing seniors in the winter and spring is just difficult. There isn’t much demand for it (even though I have started to offer 4 season packages!).
2021 is the year I want to photograph more clients than I ever have. I find so much joy in what I do that I want to continue that joy and share it with others. The transition to headshots was so easy to fit into that goal.
You Get To Look Great
So now we offer headshots, which you can think of as senior portraits for adults. The Valerie Ott Photography version. You get to look great. You get to feel great. And in the end you have amazing pictures to show for it. It was a much easier transition than I thought it would be. I love working with all types of people to make them feel beautiful. Not just 16-18 year olds. If you want to look and feel beautiful I recommend a session. It doesn’t matter if we call it a lifestyle session or headshots, either one will make you feel like you should. Self care. You can contact me HERE for a session.
