What’s My Order Here?
In case you haven’t noticed, I am posting these in first name alphabetical order. I can’t show favorites to anyone, even though secretly I do have favorites. However, my lips are sealed. Now that I have revealed that info, let’s move on to combs.
It Cost How Much?
Let’s talk about combs. Again, I feel like I should do a tutorial about how to do a great, styled photoshoot with items from the Dollar Tree. I bought 2 or 3 10-packs of combs to create this look. So we spent around $3.00 for this styled look. I had the dress; she brought the shoes. Done! The truth about combs is that it’s delightfully kitschy.
Valerie: This was the picture that started it all. Sarah saw it first. We were researching what would meet our creative needs. Sarah sent me this picture that had a comb thing happening. That sent us into this spiral of kitschy, tacky, outrageous. I feel like this was the impetus for us doing the entire theme.
She’s wearing this amazing vintage dress that I got at a theatre company. It has been sitting in my closet for at least a couple of years. That’s what we do. We hoard things that could potentially become other things one day.
It All Started Here
Sarah: The inspiration that we got from this picture was before we could put a word to what we were thinking. We were tossing out ideas, but really couldn’t figure out what we were thinking or where we were going. And then I found that picture of combs, we were sitting at lunch. She said “Kitschy!” So the inspiration for this picture is what drove the whole theme.
Valerie: Joy executed it perfectly because she has an impeccable way of being in front of the camera.
